Chilled Out at The Village at The Cove Rotana Resort

Continuing our articles of places to visit in the UAE. This edition we visit The Village at Cove Rotana in Ras Al Khaimah in the Northern Emirates, The Cove is quite unique and reminiscent of a Mediterranean harbour town with hotel and residential Villas on a steep dune that stretches down to the lapping waters of the Arabian Gulf.

They are good value deals on the internet so a little browsing will not harm always search for Cobone and GroupOn deals but I'm sure there are other offers that will suffice.

For directions from Fujairah city, drive the old Masafi road past the Friday market and turn right on the Manama road until you reach the Tawain roundabout. From there go straight ahead through to the end where it bears right to Ras Al Khaimah International Airport where you take a left to the new intersection left to the coast line and then left again where the Cove is clearly signed on your left the whole journey should take 1 hour 20 mins (124 kms) are both good companions for the trip.

The cove consists of three facilities the villas that sit within a network of manmade waterways that offer a very private stay in one, two and three bedroom five star luxury self-contained accommodation. With complimentary Wi-Fi, three television sets and the aforementioned plunge pool which are great for families, or groups of friends who want to spend time together.

The hotel is described as Nubian (Egyptian/African style)  and is colourful and unique. We stayed in the The Village, a new apartment facility  at the frontside of the property which do not benefit from the beautiful sea views but are without doubt great value and their own outlets but you also have full access to the whole resort. The Village also had great swimming pool facilities (well manned with lifeguards) with a huge slides so great fun for families wanting to keep kids busy.

Also for the little ones there is Flippers Kids Club full of colourful toys, games, arts, crafts and a fenced outdoor area where kids can play safely.

There are several swimming pools and one of the pools is located in the open on a higher level that overlooks the pristine beach. It is temperature controlled and nothing short of gorgeous. There's also a small bar by the pool that serves drinks and snacks. The swimming pool has a constant temperature and there’s a fully shaded kids pool just across the terrace. With plenty of sun loungers on offer and a handy bar for those sundowners.

For those seeking a slightly quieter time, head down towards the beach where there’s another infinity pool. Though somewhat smaller, this one is reserved purely for adults and features an additional bar. In our experience this pool is generally a lot quieter. So if you’re looking for peace then this is the one for you.

It is quite a walk down to the beach but the lanes are very pretty and shaded. I enjoyed going down but it is quite a steep climb back to the top, thankfully you can ask for one of the many golf buggies to take you back up.

And the beach is worth the walk. The water is shallow with lapping waves and there's a beach bar once you get to refresh yourself. Weekends there's a BBQ and cocktails, mocktails etc of an evening (with a DJ) and you can enjoy an evening  shisha relaxing on huge cushions beachside.

Another outlet is the Breeze which is located in the main reception part of the resort which hosts live music, definitely more of a night time venue but still worth a visit for more stunning views of the gulf on their outside terrace.

Ample choices for breakfast in the light and airy

Veranda Restaurant and the service was generally very good and the staff extremely pleasant and helpful.

The coast line in this area is well worth the visit and there many other attractions within a short distance National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah (8.6 kms) if you're looking for a little culture and history of the area also the Dhayam Fort is (23.8 kms) away. And if its fun for the family then Iceland Water Park (7.3 kms) and Khuzan Family Park (5.6 kms) are just 10 to 15 minutes away once again check for deals, there are big savings to be made if you plan ahead.

For the golf enthusiasts the Al Hamra Golf Club (12.4 kms) and Tower Links Golf Course (7.8 kms) and RAK Shooting Club (7 kms) and Go Karting (7.8 kms) and much more in the area.

Overall the trip was most enjoyable and the Gulf waters and beaches in this area are not to be under estimated judging by the rate of expansion in the area, best get a look soon.
