Why Head Massage Is the Key to the Hair Loss Epidemic

Are you worried about hair loss? 

There are a number of reasons that can cause hair loss and it can be a very distressing condition. But the good news is most hair loss is temporary and can be treated. 

 

The first step is always to identify the cause and then find the best solution. These are the main causes of hair loss

To a degree, hair loss can be inherited from your genes; this type of hair loss is called, Male Pattern Hair Loss. This condition was demonstrated by Prince William on his wedding day; both his father and grandfather also suffered from male pattern hair loss. This can be distressing for a young man though rarely is all hair is lost. Trichologists recommend that the best natural way to slow down hair loss and promote new growth is to massage your scalp with oil for a few minutes twice a week before you wash your hair. This stimulates blood flow to the hair follicles.

Stress causes a surprising amount of hair fall and this is because a huge amount of tension is stored in the scalp which restricts vital blood and nutrient flow to the hair follicles. To ease this try regular scalp massage for a few minutes prior to washing your hair: this has very good results and you will find that after a few weeks your scalp is less tight and much more flexible.  This is a good sign as the follicles remain open and you will soon start to feel healthy strong new growth near the scalp. Is hair loss caused by poor diet?

Hair cells grow quicker than practically any other cells in your body, and so they require a continuous supply of nutrients. But because hair is not an essential body organ, it is low down on your own body’s list of priorities and receives its nutrients last. If you are eating a poor diet, your hair is the first to show it.

 

When it comes to hair growth there is one mineral that makes a big difference: Iron. Many people have low iron levels due to iron blockers like tea, coffee, chocolate and wine. It is also important to get plenty of vitamin C to help the absorption of iron and include iron rich foods in your diet such as raisins, apricots, meat, liver, spinach and watercress. Also eggs - especially the yolk, oily fish e.g. tuna, sardines, pilchards, cockles and mussels.

 

Vegetable foods rich in iron 

Vegetarians often suffer from hair loss due to a lack of iron in their diet as they do not eat meat.

But they can get iron needed by eating a balanced diet containing:-

  • Wholemeal bread and flour 
  • Iron-fortified cereals - Bran, Bran flakes, Weetabix 
  • Beans and pulses e.g. lentils, chick peas, haricot, kidney, pinto, baked, butter, peas 
  • Nuts - almonds, cashews, Brazils, walnuts 
  • Dried fruit - apricots, figs, dates 
  • Green vegetables - watercress, spinach 
  • Rich fruit cake, gingerbread, ginger biscuits
  • Curry powder 
  • Cocoa, chocolate, black treacle 

 

Much food available in the Gulf is imported and has lost a lot of its nutrients during transit so for this reason it is important to take a good quality daily vitamin such as Permea Plus.

 

Once you have made sure that your body has a good supply of nutrients it is still important to make sure these nutrients reach your hair follicles and the best way to do this is to massage your scalp for a few minutes before shampooing.

 

Desalinated water

In the Gulf, most countries rely heavily upon desalinated water. The problem with desalinated water is that it contains minerals that can damage the hair causing it to break off; so what is often perceived as hair fall is in fact hair damage, and fortunately the hair will grow again. Look for Anti-Sal Shampoo formulated to stop minerals in desalinated water drying and damaging your hair.

 

To check if the hair fall is caused by breakage, look at the hair strand under a magnifying glass:  if there is no hair bulb or root, it is hair breakage, probably caused by desalinated water

 

Regular scalp massage is the remedy

Look for a very light hair repair massage oil that contains oils such as Vitamin E Oil: Avocado Oil:  Sweet Almond Oil: Sesame Seed Oil: Grape Oil Soybean Oil. Only use fragrance free oils as perfume often contains alcohol which is not good for the scalp. It is important to take care of your scalp in the same way as you would take care of the skin on your face. If you let your scalp become dry you will suffer with dandruff.
