Students Celebrate Industry Awareness Day 2008

The event was organized on Wednesday 26 November by the First Year Diploma students of the Applied Business & Technology program at Fujairah Men’s College. It was part of a project designed to make students aware of the private companies in Fujairah. Students in a group of 3 and 4 chose a private company for their project and researched the company which include interviewing the company managers. When they found enough information, the students then prepared presentation on the company.
The next step was for students to organize and advertise the Industry Awareness Day to others. They created posters, video clips and invited the company representatives to be present during their presentation. The companies also displayed their products or services. The representatives from the 13 major private companies from Fujairah participated in the event to display their products and watch the presentations of students.
Mr. Mark Johnson, Director of HCT-Fujairah inaugurated the event. He thanked the company representatives and the students for organizing such a great learning event.
The event was a perfect setting for students to have an authentic learning experience and learn about how a private business operates.
Rana Chakma, Business faculty who guided the students, commented, “I’m very happy to be in a position to guide my students, and let them have an authentic learning experience from the event. I thank my colleagues: Mohamed Payab, Community Liaison Coordinator, and Krystyna Krol, Academic Chair, Career Programs, for their excellent support and ideas. And thank you to my colleagues (English faculty), Sandra Rose and Andrew McGill who helped students with their English.”During the students’ reflection and feedback session after the event, they said, “We all really enjoyed the project. We realized that we learnt a lot of things, such as time management skills, communication skills, organization skills, leadership skills, interview skills etc.”
