The Merchants of Bollywood is based on the true story of Ayesha Merchant, the granddaughter of Shantilal Merchant, one of Bollywood’s most respected and lauded choreographers from the Hindi film industry’s golden era. Ayesha was taught Indian classical dance by Shantilal but dreams of making it big in Bollywood. Going against her grandfather’s wishes, she abandons home for Mumbai where she becomes a great success in the film industry.
The story unfolds in high-energy dance routines by a cast of 40 performers with 1600 costume changes and over 3000 pieces of jewelry. The music is by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman who was responsible for the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire movie soundtrack.
