Fujairah Men’s College to Celebrate Earth Day In celebration of Earth Day on 22 April, twenty-five trees were planted on the grounds of HCT - Fujairah Men’s College. The project was initiated by Mr Joseph Viker, faculty. The Emirates Environmental Group provided the trees including Neem, Date Palm, Sidra and Ghaf. Mr Philippe Moutaubin, General Manager of Ibis Hotel Al Barsha Dubai provided a 30-person crew to set up the planting. The event opened with a speech by Mr Mark Johnson, Director of HCT – Fujairah, Ms Sarah Baker of the Emirates Environmental Group, followed by Mr Philppe Moutaubin of Ibis. Students, faculty and staff of Fujairah Men’s College all helped get the trees into the ground.

 


Art Club Opening

Fujairah Men’s College now has an art club for students. Officially called the MOBDEOON ART CLUB (mobdeoon meaning “creative” in Arabic), this club is the brainchild of Mr Mansour Salem, a 3rd year student, with Mr Simon Niblock, faculty advisor. From the club’s Mission Statement, the aim of the club is to “Improve the range of quality experiences for all students at Fujairah Men’s College. The club will help build up the interpersonal, self confidence and leadership skills of all students involved.”

The club has sponsored two events thus far. On 14 and 15 April, Mr Abuthar Khaled Khaleel, a graduate of the Institute of Arts, Baghdad, offered a sculpturing workshop. Students carved designs on plaster blocks and then colored them. On 23 April, award-winning film maker Mr Mohammed Mamboud, a graduate of the Fujairah Private Academy and 3rd year student at the American University of Sharjah, delivered a documentary movie making workshop to over 60 students. Initially, the club will focus on the following activities : photography, painting, video, drama, sketching, mask making and sculpture.


Student of the Month

Fujairah Men’s College has selected their next “Student of the Month” of this academic year based on the following criteria; the student has demonstrated commitment, effort and drive to improve his academic progress and the student has shown remarkable improvement in one or more areas related to personal skills (e.g. improved time management, enhanced organizational skills… etc.).

“Student of the Month” Abdulla Ali Saeed Yammahi Ali’s English instructor: Mr. David Edwards nominated him and this is what they had to say about his performance: Abdulla is improving in English and his grades show it. He needs more practice but he doesn’t give up. Abdulla has maintained his 0% absence rate and he is never late. He is an active contributor when we have our study periods in the Student Success Center. Abdulla is attentive and brings good energy and cheerfulness to the classroom. Abdulla did a terrific job on his projects. He is a vital member of the college’s volleyball team. Abdulla shines and stands out in a class filled with stars. I really enjoy having him in my class. Congratulations Abdulla!
