With plenty of hotel rooms and world-class leisure facilities, it’s easy to see how the vibrant island, just half an hour out of the center of the capital, saw 25 million visitors in 2015 alone.
With road service from the East Coast and Northern Emirates set to improve over the coming year, Yas Island is also proving itself to be a fantastic family destination for weekends and holidays in the region.
Despite being operational for less than ten years, Yas Island has been instrumental in Abu Dhabi’s success as a global tourism destination. In 2014, Ferrari World began expanding by opening seven new rides; with the latest being the Flying Aces ride last March.
Back with a brand new identity to reflect the vibrancy of everything Yas Island has to offer. Back with a whole new set of goals and aspirations to better match the unprecedented popularity experienced by it. Back with more plans for development with Abu Dhabi’s future as a tourism hub in mind.
#YasDream, their new campaign hashtag, invites the world to share their experiences, past and potential- the thrills, colour and life. This is for those visitors whether they’re looking to slow things down or speed things up.
Part of Miral’s vision for the project is a ‘resort without walls’ allowing visitors to easily transition from experiencing Ferrari World, to dining by the Yas Marina at one of their many food & beverage options.
By 2022, Yas Island hope to attract 48 million visitors annually- making them one of the world’s top 10 destinations for family fun. Given their ever-growing popularity, and rampant expansion, bringing more visitors to the island shouldn’t prove too challenging. In summer alone, Yas Waterworld and Ferrari World Abu Dhabi saw 600,000 visitors - quite a feat in itself.
As a result of their extraordinary leisure and social facilities, Yas Island have been able to cultivate a year round calendar of sports and entertainment events. 2016 has more than 30 large-scale events taking place, in the Yas Marina Circuit, Du Forum and Du Arena. Every year the Ethiad Airways Grand Prix takes place with sell-out attendance from visitors around the world - always with plenty of supporting acts, such as Rihanna, Chemical Brothers and Lionel Richie coming later this month.
Chairman of Miral, Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak said: “Through its efforts to develop a world-class leisure and entertainment destination, Miral is playing a key role in supporting the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Vision.
“Tourism is a significant pillar of the Emirate’s growth and development plans, and the evolution of the Yas Island brand is a natural next step as the destination itself continues to evolve. The way in which Yas Island is being developed ensures that it will continue to be a major proof point for Abu Dhabi as a truly global destination.”
Yas Island is proving itself to be an experience open to interpretation and one for all the family to enjoy- and for a journey of less than two hours from Fujairah, it’s a world away.
