The organizing committee for the eighth edition of the World 8-Ball Championships, which starts next Sunday in the Emirate of Fujairah, announced the participation of 96 of the best international stars of the game, representing 55 countries, including players from the UAE national team.
With tournament total prizes of three and a half million dirhams, equivalent to a million US dollar, competition will be fierce for the big medals as the winner will walk away with 40,000 US dollars.
They added that the tournament will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, and organized by the UAE Federation of Billiards and Snooker, in cooperation with the World Pool-Billiards Association (WPA).
Organizers say the competition will continue until February 17, at the Fujairah Tennis & Country Club.
This came in a press conference held at the Hotel Diar Siji in Fujairah, headed by Dr. Khalid Al Mazroui, Director of Fujairah International Airport and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the championship.
The conference was also attended by Sultan Al-Joker, General Secretary of the UAE Federation of Billiards and Snooker, Saeed Ghareeb Al-Sraidi, Deputy Director General of Etisalat in the Eastern Province, and Ahmed Ibrahim, International Promoter of the championship and Tournament Director.
Also present were Abdel Moneim Al-Khatal, head of the billiard sport section of the UAE Federation of Billiards and Snooker, Octay Talibov, CEO of Fujairah Tennis & Country Club and Yahya Al-Halabi, Director of the Al-Diar Siji Hotel, Fujairah.
Khaled Al Mazroui, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, gave his sincere thanks to the volunteers and the organizing committee “working day and night” for the success of the event and thanked all sponsors, led by Etisalat.
The organizing committee says they prepared a busy schedule throughout the tournament, which will include organizing trips for the delegates to experience tourist attractions in Fujairah and the UAE, adding that the “Asia International Exhibition” will also be held during the tournament, which will contain the latest billiards and snooker equipments, with the participation of the largest international companies in this field.
