First Fujairah Shopping Festival

Tuesday 1st March 2011

Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah and in coordination with the Fujairah Municipality, we announce Fujairah Shopping Festival 2011, the first of its kind in the eastern region to be held from 24th March to the 2nd May 2011 and under the slogan (Explore Fujairah).

The first-of-its-kind shopping festival is designed to follow similar shopping festivals in the Gulf and will be held under the slogan ‘Discover Fujairah.’

According to organisers, Sama Exhibition and Festivals, over 750,000 visitors from different emirates in the UAE, neighbouring GCC states, India, Pakistan and other Arab countries are expected to attend the festival, which is in its first year of inception.

Coordinator Hamdan Mohamed Al Mulla and Sama Exhibition and Festivals will be collaborating with the Emirates Events and Exhibitions (EEE) to organise the show.

More than 350 pavilions will be set up for the exhibition area at the gateway to Fujairah City, near the branch of Ajman University (AUST).
Fujairah is organising this event at an expense of Dhs5 million in which Dhs1.5 million will be used for raffle prices and other gifts, Al Mulla pointed out. There will be daily and weekly raffle draws and other prizes for participants who are expected from all emirates in the UAE because “we have support from the authorities of all UAE Emirates,” he added. “In the first event of this nature, we have to see the number of participation and several other things to decide the future of this festival,” he said, adding that they are optimistic about it.

Currently, India and Pakistan are joining hands with businesses in Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, China and other local producers, promoters and shops to make the festival a big hit, he added.

Hanif Sheikh of EEE said, “During the cultural shows associated with the festival, many artists from abroad will be participating in the stage shows.” He, however, did not want to disclose the names of those artists because “discussions are still going on.”
Sheikh added that the organisers would consider adding some public transport services from other emirates to the festival venue in Fujairah.

Meanwhile, Al Mulla pointed out that there will be 750 parking lots, specially designed for the visitors to the show and admissions will be free for all. All outlets of shops in Fujairah will participate in the show with big offers and prizes and Lulu Hypermarket, which has a grand shopping outlet in the city, is the ‘Golden Sponsor’’ of the festival. An amusement area, which will be set up as part of the festival, will present among other things, the world’s renowned amusement riders Freij Entertainment in addition to exciting rides for children and adults, Dashing Cars, and a giant Ferris Wheel. The entertainment area will also feature ramp walks, magic shows, dances and other cultural programmes, representing different world cultures.

Contests for kids, children and adults such as poetry recitals will also be part of the festival. Another attraction of the show is a culinary showcase, Sheikh added. Organisers of the event pointed out that Tuesdays will be set as family days.
