Fujairah hosts Special Olympics athletes from Bangladesh

MENAgames18 jpgFujairah is hosting a delegation of Bangladeshi athletes with intellectual disabilities from 14th to 22nd March 2018, as part of the Special Olympics IX MENA Games 'Host Town Programme'.


Saeed Al Samahi, Director of the Fujairah Tourism and Antiquities Authority and Chairman of the Organising Committee for Hosting in Fujairah, said that the programme’s organising committee has completed all the required procedures and preparations to welcome the participating delegations of the games, as per the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah.


He added that they have prepared a programme of events that will be held between 13th and 15th March 2018, while highlighting the committee’s desire to involve people of determination, facilitate their effective participation, and support the UAE’s vision and strategy to integrate them into the community.


The Regional Games provides a platform for people with intellectual disabilities to interact with the community, which will enable them to gain self-confidence and facilitate their integration into the community. The event will see the participation of 1,000 athletes from 31 countries, and is the first major sporting event ahead of Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.
