Under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, the Fujairah Junior Pan-Arab Taekwondo Tournament for under-17 starts today at the Merbeh Sports Hall.
The competition is organized by the UAE Taekwondo and Karate Federation (UAETKF), in collaboration with Fujairah Boxing and Taekwondo Club, under the supervision of the Arab and the world Federations of the game.
The tournament continue until the 23rd of this month with the participation of 15 countries, led by the UAE, with two teams (male and female), along with Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Sudan, Bahrain, Qatar, Tunisia, Algeria, Yemen, and Palestine.
Teams started arriving over the weekend and a training camp for the UAE youth team, in preparation for the tournament, concluded last week.
Retired Maj. Gen. Nasser Abdul Razak Al-Razzuqi, President of the UAETKF affirmed all preparations and arrangements for the launch of the Arab Championship have been completed.
Al-Razzuqi said the tournament will contribute to the spread of taekwondo in the Emirate of Fujairah, and the development of the national team of taekwondo through the opportunities for competitive contact and exchange of expertise.
Al-Razzuqi praised the prominent role of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of the Emirate of Fujairah, and his support of many of the tournaments and sports activities.
Eid Fairuz Al Mesmari, Tournament Director, and Director of Fujairah Boxing and Taekwondo Club, expressed his pleasure of the establishment of the Arab Championship in the UAE, and in the Emirate of Fujairah and hoped it will be a regular event for years to come.
