Chill out with Meridien’s Martini Brunch

Martini3 gifAfter a surreptitiously sunny drive from Fujairah, our party of three was welcomed and seated on the Sapore terrace; tucked in amongst long grasses and a gently babbling water feature. We were unfashionably eager and on time for a change.

Truthfully, in the days leading up to the restaurant’s first ever Martini brunch we were certain it was going to be at least overcast, if not a little chilly. Still undeterred, we could think of nothing finer to do on a Friday afternoon than to sample twenty mini-courses coming out of Sapore’s kitchen, and sip on refreshing cocktails.

You read that right. Twenty ‘mini-courses’: almost too perfect for indecisive foodies.

After having been walked through the ordering process, we were given the menu only to be rendered speechless by the options available. For the person that takes their time choosing at a restaurant, this brunch may have been done with you in mind.

The way the a la carte brunch works- every person has five options for each of the four courses. Starting with appetizers, pasta, main plate and then the sweets. There’s a small portion of each pick, which led us to think we may end up feeling hungry afterwards. We were very wrong.

The alcoholic drinks are using Martini brand products- you’re not just limited to the classic martini cocktails here. Martini puts their name to a range of sparkling grapes including prosecco and asti, in addition to vermouths and bitters. You’ll even find a few inspired dishes on the menu containing their products.

All around favorites were a polenta-crusted shrimp, and seared tuna.

The pace of the afternoon was incredibly leisurely- but not long after we were brought our pasta courses. The choices in that category were all crowd pleasers, and it’s very difficult to go wrong with freshly prepared pasta made in-house.

Again there is enough to try, however not so much that you are overwhelmed with food. The menu and concept suits the breezy, yet sophisticated, setting very well: everything is fresh, high-quality ingredients prepared with expertise and served by typically amicable and laid-back Le Meridien staff.

By the time the third plate arrived we realized just how wrong we were about not feeling full- but the thought of being able to try 10 more things off the menu was too appealing. In fact all three of us agreed there was a lamb chop dish that we’d happily take 5 of next time we came.

All the dishes came out perfect for a bright sunny day on a terrace.

Then came the desserts: the walnut semi-freddo that needed immediate attention in the warmth of the day, and a bright Mango and raspberry sorbet, amongst others. They were a welcome mix of fun flavors in line with Sapore’s signature classical fare- a great conclusion to the meal.

For those of you familiar with Sapore, you’ll know the high caliber of the food being served- making the Martini Brunch not only excellent value, but also a good way to get a taste of everything.

Martini5 gifThere are also alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks packages, as well as those with pool and beach access to Le Meridien Al Aqah (also usually 300 AED/- for non-members on a Friday plus a lunch buffet).

Truly spoilt for choice.
