31st Annual Meeting of ARABMED concludes

The 31st Annual Meeting of ARABMED in Europe, hosted by Al Sharq Hospital, affiliated to Al Sharq Group for Healthcare, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, came to an end this week with the advice to Arab world governments to pay attention to the brain drain in the medical field.

 

H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, had opened the two-day 31st Annual Meeting of ARABMED in Europe on the 25th October, 2015 in Fujairah.The conference was organised by Al Sharq Hospital, a subsidiary of Al Sharq Healthcare Group at the Novotel Hotel, Fujairah.

 

The opening ceremony was attended by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, Sheikh Rashid bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority, Sheikh Maktoum bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Sheikh Hamad bin Saleh Al Sharqi, Deputy Chairman of Fujairah National Group, Chairman of Al Sharq Healthcare group, a number of sheikhs, officers and directors of federal and local departments in Fujairah, as well as doctors and specialists in the UAE and Arab doctors from Europe.

 

The conference gathered 140 doctors from various medical fields. Attendees were granted 16 CME hours accredited by the Ministry of Health in the UAE.

 

During the closing ceremony Dr. Abdul Hamid Sinan, General Manager of Al Sharq Hospital, appreciated and praised H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi for his generous sponsorship of the conference, and other sponsors for their unlimited support for the health sector and their ambitions to promote medical services in the UAE. Participants recommended the following-up, development and generation of constructive cooperation between ARABMED and Al Sharq Group for Healthcare, in order to achieve common goals by raising Arab citizen services wherever they are. Participants called on Arab governments to pay particular attention to the brain drain in the medical field. In addition, ARABMED invited the Secretary-General of the Arab League to establish a presentation for direct examination of the factors that lead to the brain drain, and to find serious and effective ways to reduce or halt this issue.

 

Participants called on medical associations throughout Europe to find a method of joint cooperation, with the aim of reuniting Arab colleagues, establishing cooperation and coordination among each other for helping Arab doctors in diaspora, and development of means to exchange science and expertise to Arab countries. In addition, they highlighted the need to support ARABMED medical relief projects for afflicted people, along with expanding the database in Al Sharq Group for Healthcare enabling continuity of communication and collaboration, as well as developing an Arab Research Centre, with participation of ARABMED members in research teams in Al Sharq hospital, and operating supporting research teams for communication and cooperation under the umbrella of the Arab League.

“We are happy and proud of this participation and the great attention given to the 31st Annual Meeting of ARABMED in Europe, hopefully, sincere efforts made will enable us to see the medical sector in UAE and the Arab world in the same list as the most advanced countries. We are optimistic that the studies and research presented during the past few days will contribute significantly to the development of capacities on the east coast of the UAE, leading ultimately to improve and strengthen our health care system. It was an ideal platform and provided the opportunity to exchange experiences and expertise on ways to provide more sophisticated health services in the future,” said Dr. Abdul-Hamid Sinan, General Manager of Al Sharq Hospital.

 

The meeting was attended by an elite group of Arab doctors working in several medical fields in European countries, and a number of doctors and health sector workers in the UAE.

 

The conference aimed was to support the medical sector in the UAE in general, and Fujairah and Eastern Coast in particular, through introducing recent science and modern medical devices, in addition to training medical teams and utilising them for the advancement of the medical sector in the region. The conference includes 12 academic sessions in addition to several workshops on different medical topics, including sessions for obesity, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics diseases, oncology, heart and circulation, ophthalmology, nephrology, nutrition, and paediatrics.
