The highly successful Fujairah Bunkering Week once again underscored Fujairah’s global credentials as one of the top three bunkering destinations and crude oil storage hubs. FUJCON is held every other year under the auspices of the Government of Fujairah and the Port of Fujairah, with the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah and Member of the UAE Supreme Council.

FUJCON was honoured by the gracious attendance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, His Highness Sheikh Saleh  bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Department of Industry & Economy, Fujairah & Chairman of the Board of Port of Fujairah, several VIPs, during the official opening on 28th March.

The 10th International Fujairah Bunkering & Fuel Oil Forum (FUJCON 2017) took place 27-29th March seeing a panel of forty speakers addressing trends, issues, challenges and evolution of the oil and bunkering industries.

FUJCON continued to draw the best of the global bunkering and marine industries, as delegates gathered from all over the world, converging in Fujairah to examine and debate, key developments in the bunker and fuel oil business and the impact of bunkering developments globally.

This year’s event takes place under the theme of ‘Driving Transformation across the Bunkering Supply Chain’, and features decision makers, thought leaders and marine experts discussing the impact/preparation for new sulphur regulations which will come into force in 2020, trading and risk management strategies, the challenges of marine fuel quality, legal perspectives of the bunker industry, new environmental regulations and the growth of LNG bunkering.

A key point brought up in the opening remarks and keynote addresses were the implications of restrictions on sulphur emissions on the shipping industry. Sulphur emissions have been linked to premature deaths from lung cancer and heart disease. Currently the limit for marine fuels is over 3000 times higher than for diesel in European road vehicles; the shipping sector is by far the biggest emitter of SO2. One of the central themes of FUJCON 2017 will be how this is adapted to throughout the supply chain.

The FUJCON 2017 is always held during the Fujairah Bunkering Week, and is expected to have seen a gathering of 400 participants from thirty countries. This year’s event will see attendees’ alliance over five industry events, varying social functions, site visits and plenty of networking time.
