The 9th ITF Fujairah Junior Tennis Championship at Tennis and Country Club Fujairah came to an end on 21st January 2017, a grade 4 tournament.
With 97 players from 30 different nationalities, the finals came down to a tremendous end. The winner for Singles finals Aaron Schmid from Switzerland and Zoziya Kardava from Russia were followed by runners up Matthew Johnson from South Africa and Danai Petrovla from Greece.
Both the winners confirmed that they had been through some really tough opponents. Aaron, started playing at the age of 6 and believes that it is important to be consistent in all walks of like starting from Tennis to Family to friends. Zoziya says all that matters is too give your best in the court and go for the win.
On speaking Laith Al Ani, assistant referee at UAE Tennis Federation, “The level of expertise is rising every season. Players are able to withstand any challenge, be it the winds or the rains, both of which we encountered this ITF.”
Adding further he says, “Parents should encourage children to start at a very young age and prepare them to be the winners of Tennis tomorrow. School does too play a vital role in recognizing the talents and nurturing them.
2016 Gulf Tennis Cup
Omar Al-Awadi a national team player was the winner of men’s singles in the 2016 Individual Men’s Championships.
Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Dr Rashid bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Chairman of Fujairah Culture & Media, on the courts of Tennis & Country Club Fujairah, and organized by Tennis Emirates.
Omar Al-Awadi took the title, after beating Kuwait’s Abdullah Jacob in the final outcome of 6-4 and 6-3. Qatar’s Mubarak Shannan Harrasi and Mousa Shanan Harrasi claimed the doubles title at the same championships. In the final, the Qatari duo defeated Kuwait’s Abdullah Yaqoub and Abdulhameed Mahboub 6-7(3), 7-6(9), 10-2.
