Middle East made another step forward in the promotion of Bodybuilding hosting the 1st edition of the IFBB Diamond Cup. Fujairah also celebrated the 17th Fujairah Bodybuilding Championship held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Saleh Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Department of Industry and Economy and with the support of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Vice President of the Asian Bodybuilding Federation (ABBF) and President of the Emirates Bodybuilding Federation (EBBF).
The two championships were held at the Tennis & Country Club Fujairah from 19th - 21st April 2016.
A fully packed hall of euphoric fans watched a 250 musclemen from the UAE and across the world took place in the two day bodybuilding event from Syria, Yemen, Oman, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, India, Iran, Iraq, Bahrain and United Arab Emirates enter into the Diamond Cup, competing for top money prizes for the top 3 athletes in each category, and ten UAE national amateur bodybuilders competed for two international cards of professional bodybuilding, the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) the two Pro Cards reserved for the two best competitors.
Amer Majid Jafar (UAE) was the overall winner, defeating the other 3 champions, after reaching victory in the -85 kg. category himself. Joined by Mohamed Khaled Embaby (Egypt) -winner in -75 kg. The other champions were Khalil Asadi (Iran -95 kg,) and Aste Morgan (UAE +95 kg.) Morgan was the heaviest athlete at (132 kg in the weight inn) which demonstrated that the judges were appraising the aesthetic and global shape, as the main priorities.
The first ever UAE international professional bodybuilders emerged during this competition as Jafar was not only crowned as the champion of the up to 85 kg Category in the 17th Fujairah Bodybuilding Championship, IFBB Diamond Cup, but he also secured one of the two IFBB Pro Cards that were on offer at the end of the championship.
