Emiratis dominate Fujairah Jiu-Jitsu Championship

JJFuj18a jpgSheikh Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah attended the final day of Fujairah International Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championship which took place at the new Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah City.

 

The tournament attracted prominent athletes from more than 35 countries for the two-day event which is part of the UAEJJF World Ranking and Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Qualifying Series.

 

An outstanding performance for No-Gis on the first day the tournament witnessed high level of competition between the players.

 

Among the most prominent were the Emirati white-belt Mohammed Khalil Al Hosani, who won the gold medal for the Junior 50kg; Kuwaiti white-belt, Aqil Abu Sakher who also won a gold medal for the 92kg class; Emirati white-belt Mohammad Al Matroushi left with a gold for the 55kg class; Brazilian blue-belt Francisco Hitor Santiago gold-winner of the 75kg class and Emirati white-belt Saeed Mohammad the gold-winner of the Junior 60kg class.

 

The second day of the tournament, the Gi male and female competitions were held in different weights and belts. The competition was filled with world-class athletes, and the contestants showed all their skills to achieve gold.

 

UAE Emir Faris Adel Al Balochi won the Junior 46kg gold. UAE’s white-belt, Zahrat Al Shamsi won gold for the Junior 49kg class. Brazilian Marconi Santiago, the black belt holder, won 69kg in the Masters class. Sultan Al Owais, blue-belt holder left with gold for the Male 69kg class.

 

JJFuj18 jpgAttracting International players the championship established for its leading position this year on the international Jiu-Jitsu agenda. Hence, notably Russian player Amir Gitenov, Silver-medal winner of the NoGi 50 kg, Iraqi player Faisal Khalidi, Silver-medal winner of the NoGi 66 kg and Bronze-medal winner, the Egyptian Muayad Barakat for the Gi 60 kg class.

 

Brazil’s Maico Reiter, who won a silver medal in the Male Gi, black belt master 77kg category, was in the unique position of being beaten to the gold medal by his former pupil, Emirati Talib Saleh from Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club.
