Dutch player Peter Wessels was crowned winner of the singles title in the seventh edition of the Sheikh Zayed International Tennis Tournament, organized by the Fujairah Tennis Club, in collaboration with the UAE Tennis Federation.
The cup was held at the resort of Le Meridien Al Aqah, were the participating 30 players representing 10 countries provided a good level throughout the tournament.
The world no. 72 Peter Wessels won first place after a dramatic finals match against Emirati Omar Behroozian, who finished in second place.
Winning third place was Australian Sebastian Swierk, champion of the last edition, and fourth spot went to Omani player Mohammed Al Nabhani.
As for the doubles finals match, which was strongly contested, duo Omar Behroozian (UAE) and his colleague, Fahad Al Saad (Saudi Arabia) were crowned a well-deserved first place after they stunned Dutchman Peter Wessels and Australian Sebastian Swierk who had to settle for second place.
Abdul Ghafour Behroozian, Chairman of Fujairah Tennis Club crowned the double winners on behalf of Sheikh Rashid bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Chairman of Fujairah Tennis Club and sponsor of the tournament in front of a healthy crowd.
During his speech in the closing ceremony, Khalid Al-Ali, of Fujairah Tennis Club, expressed his thanks to Sheikh Rashid bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Chairman of Fujairah Tennis Club on his patronage and interest. He pointed out that the seventh edition of the tournament produced many gains, thanks to the widening of participation and levels of quality provided by the players.
Patrick Antaki, General Manager of Le Meridien Al Aqah Resort, expressed his pleasure at the great success achieved by the tournament and how it managed to attracted large numbers of tennis fans.
