Organizers hail successful Maktoum Ramadan Championships

Makchamps gifThe curtain came down on the Maktoum Ramadan Championships, which included over 21 sports event with more than 1200 athletes and lasted nearly three weeks, as the Bin Saleh Group walked away with the football crown after beating the Fujairah Police team on the final day of action.

 

Fujairah Police lost by one goal to nil, but a second place finish and the award for best player, for their player Ahmed Karam, would prove a decent consolation. 

 

In other competitions, team Vopak were crowned winners of the basketball competition, the Dubai Free Zone won the volleyball title, and in the tug of war challenge, an exciting and powerful final match saw Dubai Police yank first place away from the Fujairah Police team.

 

In the boxing competition, the Fujairah boxers continued their excellent performances by landing 31 gold medals, putting them on top spot overall with Al Ain team coming second.

 

Some of the other individual winners were: Hamad Rashid in the Chess competition and Abdulaziz Hamid in motorcycles. In Car Championship, Salem Sultan was crowned first place in the sports category, Jassim Thani won the heavy category title and Mohammed Al Balushi took the classic category.

 

In the women’s competitions the Ajman team won both the football and basketball competitions, while the Eastern Region team won the volleyball title. The Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled won the Paralympics athletics for people with special needs.

 

Following the end of competitions, Sheikh Maktoum bin Hamad Al Sharqi, sponsor of the event, crowned the winners in front of a large attendance fronted by Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Ahmad Sharif Director of the UAE Federation for Cars and Motorcycles, Nasser Yamahi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Khalid Al Mazrui, General Manager of Fujairah Airport, Ahmed Ibrahim, CEO of Fujairah International Marine Club, Sharif Al Awadi, Director of the Fujairah Free Zone, Salem Al -Mukasah, Director of the Public Works Department, Musa Murad, Director the Port of Fujairah, and Khalifa Masud Director tournaments, in addition to a number of sponsors and officials of local departments. 

 

During his closing ceremony speech, Nasser Yamahi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the games, expressed appreciation to His Highness, the Ruler of Fujairah on the unlimited support of sport and youth, and to the Crown Prince, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, on the care and support of sports and to Sheikh Maktoum Al-Sharqi for his wonderful initiative.
