mumbai1

Two classes of Health & Office Technology and Applied Business Technology students from Fujairah Women’s College took an international Field Trip to Mumbai, India in early December.

18 Emirati students and 4 international chaperones toured the city for 4 days while classes were off for the National Day holiday.
The group was involved in a variety of activities. Among them was a tour of the HOPE Foundation which is an American-based Aid Organization. 2 schools were visited. The schools offer low-cost education to poverty-stricken families in the Mumbai metro area. The young ladies met with the director, got tours of 2 different schools and spent the morning interacting with the young students in English. The students also raised 89,000 Indian Rupees (7,000 AED) from Fujairah Women’s College students and faculty to donate to the organization.

Students learned about the environmental and financial benefits of regular eco-practices of the Eco-tel including proper recycling, compost and water and waste management.
The final leg of the tour saw the ladies get a full afternoon tour of the Dharavi Slums. The students learned about the plastic and metal recycling plants there as well as the various other industries that exist. The industries, living conditions, schools and health care facilities were the primary focuses of the tour. The project concluded with a presentation at Fujairah Women’s College on December 16th to the student body and faculty to present and profess their education on this international field trip.

HCT Fujairah Colleges promotes Health and Wellness

hct-well

During the first week of December, students at Fujairah Men’s College and Women’s College celebrated a fun-filled week focused on the theme of Health and Wellness. Activities were organized around a daily theme including ‘Food and Nutrition’, ‘Exercise and Fitness’, ‘Women’s Health (FWC)’, ‘Men’s Health (FMC)’, ‘Mind, Mood and Emotion’ and ‘Healthy Living’.

Activities ranged from informational sessions by the counsellors, faculty as well as guest speakers to physical activities. Speakers informed students on topics such as healthy living, mother and child health, stress reduction and Thalassemia.
The healthy snack of the day available at the entrance was a favourite with students. Staff and faculty were actively involved and assisted in many sports throughout the day such as horseshoes, petanque, table tennis, football and chess.
The walk around the new walking path at Fujairah Women’s College was one of the favourites among the female students as was the Body Analysis Machine.
The Football competition and table tennis, on the other hand, proved to be a winner for the men.
The success of the week lies in the positive reactions of the students. As Mayar, Student Council President of Fujairah Women’s College stated “Health and Wellness Week was a self discovery week, because we learned how to deal with our own bodies!”
