Fujairah International Marine Club started the events season with Fujairah (National Day) Fishing Competition which took place on November 29th. The event which was supposed to be held on 22nd was delayed to next week due to the weather forecast and warning received from both The Coast Guard and the National Center of Meteorology and Seismology.
With determination and excitement the 37 competitors started their journey on 11 vessels to catch the longest, heaviest, and most unusual fishes to win the competition which was sponsored by Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort, Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort, Fujairah Rotana Resort & Spa, and Radisson Blu Resort Fujairah who were kind enough to sponsor this round.
The competitors were back at 4:30 (deadline time) and results were very close. A few centimeters and a few grams determined the winners as the following:
Heaviest Catch:
1st Place: Tristan Irons, Canadian, with a 4.9 kg catch.
2nd Place: Bill Ghorayeb, American, with a 4.7 kg catch.
3rd place: Sabu Chempanchira, Indian, with a 3.6 kg catch.
Longest Catch:
1st Place: Hani Maher, Egyptian, with a 103cm catch.
2nd Place: William Roman, American, with a 100cm catch.
3rd place: Refki Elmujtahed, British, with a 95cm catch.
The Most Unusual Catch: Artur Kheylik, Russian.
The competition also had several entries who participated in the Ladies Competitors category.
The Ladies Competitors results were:
1st Place: Leyla Kheylik, Russian, with a 98cm catch.
2nd Place: Tamia, Russian, with a 90cm catch.
3rd Place: Alysia, Russian, (13 years old), with a 73cm catch.
4th Place: Ella, Azerbaijani, with a 70cm catch.
