The Fujairah International Marine Club (FIMC) launched their 2011/2012 marine sports season by organizing the first round race of His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah’s Cup for local boats ‘Shoosh’.
The 4-round competition is held to coincide with National Day celebrations, on the request of Sheikh Saif bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Chairman of the FIMC to preserve the local heritage and remind the current generation of the history of their ancestors in the days of the Union anniversary festivities.
10 boats participated in the first round ‘Shoosh’ race with of 50 sailors on board. Victory went to the boat “Marjaan” captained by owner Abdullah Mohammed Suleiman, in second place came “ Faza’a” captained by owner Abdul Aziz Masoud, coming third was the boat “Al-Regaylaat“ captained by Rashid Mohamed Al-Auwayed and owner Mohammed Rashid Al-Auwayed, while finishing fourth was the boat “Fujairah “ captained by Salem Masoud and owned by Sheikh Maktoum bin Hamad Al Sharqi.
Ahmad Ibrahim, Director of FIMC and a member of the UAE Marine Sports Federation crowned the winners in front of audiences and guests of the event.
Ahmed Ibrahim expressed his happiness for the good organization and high spirit shown by the contestants, which heralds the success and continuation of the annual tournament in terms of maintaining the heritage of the UAE and the diversification of marine activities.
