Another fun-filled and popular fishing competition was held at the Fujairah International Marine & Sports Club with a strong local showing among the wining catches of the day.
The honour of catching the heaviest fish went to Emirati contestant Ahmed Obaid Rashid who managed to land a fish weighing 6.6kg, in second place came his compatriot Ali Rashid who caught a 5kg fish and third place went to Gregory John from South Africa with a catch weighing 4.4kg.
Seventy contenders from the UAE and other countries took part in the competition. The anglers were given 16 fishing boats.
The club holds three rounds of the fishing contest with the aim of activating tourism in the emirate.
Roland Rosllar from Germany managed to catch 114-cm-long fish, followed by his compatriot Frank Louver who caught 92-cm-long fish and Mohammed Amin came third with 84-cm-long catch.
In the weirdest fish category, Alex Loor from South Africa came first.
In women anglers’ contest, Lila Abiev from Russia topped the list followed by Charlie from the UK in the second and Catherin, also from the UK, in the third position. The winners were honoured with prizes.
The club will hold a wide-scale regatta as part of the 40th National Day celebrations, which will be held in coordination with the Fujairah municipality and the Fujairah Culture & Media Authority.
The club also took part in the general assembly of the International Marine Sports Federation, which was held in Abu Dhabi on October 23rd.
