XCAT World Series Powerboat Championship

Known as the calm Emirate of natural beauty, Fujairah is about to witness one of the biggest and most exciting events of the year as it gears up to host the final heat of the X-CAT World Series Powerboat Championship. 

 

Not to be confused with the Class 1 Powerboat race, which Fujairah had the pleasure of hosting before, the X-CAT is in a league of it’s own. Currently in its fifth year, 2008 witnessed the start of the X-CAT race which has continued to grow, becoming one of the most competitive powerboat races in the world. After hosting the first four heats in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the fifth and final heat is set to take place at the Fujairah International Marine Club in Fujairah.

 

Fujairah’s quietness is set to be broken by the roaring engines of these powerful powerboats as they make their debut on the shores of the Indian Ocean. Measuring anywhere from 7.6 metres to 10 metres and weighing 1,755 kgs with 6,000cc engines, these boats are going to set hearts beating as they enthrall the spectators with their performance.

 

The Fujairah course, which extends from the Fujairah Marine Club to the Hilton Hotel will offer the racers a more challenging and unpredictable race as the Indian Ocean’s waters are rougher than the Arabian Gulf’s waters. The police and qualified rescue teams will be at hand to ensure the safety of the race.

 

With 14 teams racing against each other, including the previous winning team, ‘Fazza’, the public will be able to line up along Fujairah’s corniche to cheer on the teams and witness the action as it happens.
