After a rough start to their efforts, Fujairah Municipality and local business owners have successfully relocated to the new Al Hayl industrial area.
Communities have required services since time immemorial. The derelict area we know as Saniya (“Industrial area”) is now virtually empty due to the massive re-location of its small to medium size businesses.
From welding workshops to the sale of car parts, over 1500 establishments were given the ultimatum last year to begin transitioning to the new Al Hayl. The new industrial area in Al Hayl is now fully connected to water and electrical utilities, and frees up land in the city center for new plans and possibilities.
All established businesses can now operate knowing that Al Hayl is meeting the latest standards of infrastructure, after initially facing some issues with power supply and failure of store owners to relocate after the original requests to relocate.
The multinationals that tend to overrun us will no doubt continue to prosper but the small shops inject money into all parts of the community and give us a broader choice of services. They depend on support from local government, as well as the community because they are essential to the wellbeing of Fujairah.
The new Sanaiya district (Sanaiya means industrial in Arabic) is a five-minute drive from the centre of the city and offers a wide range of services to residents You can find anything in this sprawling district from a car repair garage to a carpenter
So out with the old, and good luck to the new!
