H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, received at his Palace in Rumaila, a group of Trucial Oman Scouts who is visiting the UAE at the invitation of the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces.
The meeting reviewed the longstanding historic bonds between the UAE and UK. Sheikh Hamad commended the role the force played in maintaining security and stability in the pre-UAE federation. The group showed Sheikh Hamad a draft book it is going to publish about the UAE. Illustrated with photos about the UAE, Sheikhs, dignitaries and senior officials, the book chronicles events which took place at that time.
The veterans shared their memories and experiences of the pre-federation days.
The group of former British personnel, who served in the Trucial Oman Levies, said they were delighted at visiting the UAE and excited at meeting their old friends
They also thanked the UAE Armed Forces for the kind invitation and lauded progress the UAE is witnessing in all walks of life.
Formed in 1951, the Trucial Oman Levies were commanded by a British Army Major and consisted of 35 officers and soldiers of the Arab Legion. By 1956, it was renamed the Trucial Oman Scouts and then expanded into a paramilitary of 150 British offi cers and 500 Arab offi cers and noncommissioned officers from both sides.
