The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, launches the third edition of the UAE Heritage Festival, under the slogan “Heritage Crafts and Professions” tomorrow Thursday, 17 April, for 4 days in a row to coincide with the International Heritage Day, in the Fujairah Heritage Village in the Fujairah Fort, in the period between 17 – 20 April, under the patronage and in the presence of HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of culture, Youth and community Development.
The festival includes many cultural and heritage events derived from the heritage of the UAE represented in the arts , popular games and heritage handcrafts, with the participation of 29 Associations specialized in heritage and folk arts representing different environments in the country through a variety of programs , in addition to the participation of more than 23 authorities and institutions , most notably Fujairah Municipality , the Department of human Resources and the Fujairah Medical District, the Department of Endowments, the Judiciary Department , care and events center and Fujairah Welfare Association in addition to a delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia , the Sultanate of Oman and from the State of Kuwait.
On her part, H.E. Afra Al Sabri, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, said the ministry chose the slogan “Heritage Crafts and Professions” to be a slogan and a goal for the third session of the festival to revive many UAE Heritage Crafts and Professions, in order to preserve the intangible heritage of the United Arab Emirates.
Al Sabri further explained that the festival comes to coincide with the day the Heritage World, which the ministry is keen to celebrate annually; in order to preserve the authentic heritage of the UAE and activate it in various occasions, due to its importance as the legacy left by the ancestors to their descendants, as well as implanting it in the memory of successive generations.
H.E. added that the events of the festival over the four days period will include honoring a number of narrators and heritage collectors who have contributed with great efforts in preserving , employing and documenting the heritage, including the Musician Eid Al Farag , Sabran Al Qubaisi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Folk Arts and Theater, and Saif Matari Head of the Fujairah Folk Art Association, and Khalfan Al Naqbi, researcher in the field of folk Heritage and Khamees Al Khdeim, researcher in the field of folk Heritage and Dominique Le Bego, a researcher in the field of heritage and Mohammed Ben Youssef, a researcher in the field of folk Heritage. The festival will also include several folk art shows, folk games, traditional crafts and industries, Heritage Exhibition and Competitions.
Al Sabri further explained, that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, is keen to organize several workshops during the festival for young people to practice these arts to introduce new generations to the legacy of their ancestors and preserve these arts from extinction, and to deliver these arts to the children of the future so that they don’t get disconnected from their tradition genuine heritage.
H.E. added that the ministry was keen that the associations participating should be from inside the country, and will deal with arts from its environment, putting into consideration that art is derived from its surrounding environment.
